Accident Overview
A student pilot was conducting a touch-and-go landing when the airplane suddenly veered to the left after touchdown. The pilot reduced power, but the aircraft departed the side of the runway and entered snow-covered terrain.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot's report, after touchdown he added power for an immediate takeoff. The airplane then turned abruptly left. The pilot reduced power, yet the aircraft continued off the runway into the snow. Attempting to regain the runway, the pilot steered to parallel the surface, but the airplane slid further left, tipped onto its left wing, and subsequently nosed over.
Aircraft and Environmental Conditions
The pilot stated there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane at the time of the accident. The runway surface was dry, and the wind was reported as three knots.
