Accident Sequence
According to the pilot and one passenger, the rotorcraft lifted off from the airstrip and rose to a hover at an altitude of about 2 to 3 feet. Immediately after reaching this hover, the rotorcraft began a violent spin to the right. The spin persisted until the landing skid and the nose section of the rotorcraft collided with the ground. The impact caused the main rotor to sever the tail boom, after which the main rotor itself collided with the terrain. The rotorcraft then rolled over onto its right side.
Investigation
