During landing, the airplane ballooned and porpoised after hard main gear contact, leading to nose gear collapse and nose over. Postaccident examination found no preexisting anomalies.

Accident Details

The airplane sustained damage during a nose over following a nose gear collapse while landing. The pilot reported that during the landing sequence, the airplane ballooned and gained noticeable altitude. At that point, the pilot determined it was too late to execute a go-around. In an attempt to get the airplane onto the runway, main gear contact was made very hard, causing the airplane to bounce airborne again. The airplane then porpoised down the runway until the nose gear collapsed, resulting in the nose over.

Pilot Information

The pilot indicated no mechanical failure or malfunction in the accident report. The pilot's airman certificate was issued on July 6, 2000. According to the written report, the pilot had accumulated 88.1 hours of total flight time, of which 29.9 hours were as pilot in command.

Postaccident Examination

A postaccident examination of the aircraft failed to reveal any anomalies that could be associated with a preexisting condition. No mechanical or structural issues were identified that would have contributed to the accident sequence.
