A pilot made a normal night approach but landed left of centerline. Left main gear contacted runway edge, then entered plowed snow, causing the airplane to veer, enter deeper snow, and flip over. No mechanical issues were reported.

Accident Description

The pilot performed a normal approach to a runway measuring 2,942 feet in length and 40 feet in width under night conditions. The landing, however, deviated from the runway centerline to the left. During touchdown, the left main landing gear contacted the edge of the runway surface. Subsequently, the left landing gear entered a bank of plowed snow adjacent to the runway.

As the airplane continued, it veered to the left, traveling further into the snow bank before flipping over. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical deficiencies with the aircraft and stated that he "messed up" the landing.

Probable Cause

The pilot's misjudgment during landing resulted in the aircraft touching down left of the runway centerline, leading to the left gear contacting the runway edge and entering a snow bank, which caused the airplane to veer and overturn.
