What happened
The student pilot reported initiating the flare at an airspeed of 60 to 65 knots. The descent rate remained lower than typical for the duration of the flare, causing the aircraft to land further down the runway than anticipated. Upon touchdown, the pilot applied maximum braking effort; however, the airplane continued to slide forward along the pavement.
The aircraft traveled beyond the paved surface, crossing a road located at the end of the runway. During this transition, the airplane became airborne again. The pilot attempted to gain altitude by applying full power but determined that sufficient height could not be achieved to clear the tree line ahead. Consequently, the pilot reduced throttle and executed a controlled descent onto the ground just before reaching a pond.
The aircraft slid into the water and came to rest in a nose-over attitude. A subsequent inspection of the airframe revealed no mechanical anomalies or pre-existing defects that would have contributed to the incident.
