Accident Overview
An on-demand air-taxi positioning flight sustained substantial damage when the nose gear collapsed during landing. The incident occurred after the flightcrew changed seat positions to allow the first officer to accumulate additional pilot-in-command (PIC) time by occupying the left seat. The captain had advised the first officer that he would be on the controls during the first officer's initial landing attempt at the accident airport.
Sequence of Events
Upon touchdown, the first officer deployed the thrust reversers. The airplane then lifted up and bounced three to four times down the runway. The captain stated that the first bounce was not severe enough to warrant a go-around. However, after the second or third bounce, the captain took control of the airplane but was unable to maintain control. He added that the airplane was too slow to attempt a go-around.
Damage
The nose gear collapsed during the landing, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft.
