Event Description
An instructional flight conducting multiple touch-and-go landings in a closed right VFR pattern experienced a loss of control. After takeoff, the aircraft completed three touch-and-go landings. During the fourth pattern, as the aircraft reached the point where the occupants intended to turn base, the tower controller instructed them to execute a left 360-degree turn and report when reestablished on the downwind leg.
Sequence of Events
One of the pilots informed the tower that they were about to turn base, but the controller repeated the instruction, citing the need for spacing to permit an IFR aircraft to depart. The instruction was read back by one of the pilots, and the aircraft then entered a left 360-degree turn. As the aircraft approached a position to reestablish on the downwind leg, the flying pilot allowed the airspeed to decrease below the stalling speed (Vs). This resulted in the aircraft entering a spin.
