A seaplane pilot was on approach to land on a lake when the aircraft encountered wires at an altitude of approximately 50 feet above the water. The pilot observed the wires and attempted to clear them by immediately applying full engine power and back pressure on the yoke.

Sequence of Events

As the pilot applied power and back pressure, the wires passed over the top of the floats. However, the wires subsequently caught onto both float struts. The right-side wires eventually broke free, but the left-side wires remained entangled on the left float strut. This entanglement pulled the airplane downward. In response, the pilot pulled the nose up just before the aircraft impacted the water.
