A student pilot experienced unexpected airplane behavior during a soft-field takeoff, resulting in a veer off the runway, wing strike, and substantial damage to both wings and engine separation.

Incident Details

During a soft-field takeoff attempt, a student pilot applied full power. However, the airplane did not respond as it had earlier in the day and failed to climb as expected. The airplane pitched up and veered off the left side of the runway. The pilot reported that he was "too low to push [the] nose down to increase airspeed." Consequently, the airplane's left wing dropped and struck the ground. The airplane then spun around to the left, causing the nose and right wing to also strike the ground. The airplane came to a stop on a heading of approximately 070 degrees.

Aircraft Damage

The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings. Additionally, the engine and right wing strut were separated from the fuselage.
