Incident Summary
A pilot with 785 hours of flight experience reported a deer strike while landing on a very dark night. The pilot was conducting a visual approach to the runway with the landing light and runway lights illuminated.
Pilot Report
According to the pilot, just after touchdown, while the nose wheel was still in the air, he noticed something on the right side of the aircraft. He then felt a thud and observed a deer beneath the nose on the left side. Subsequently, he felt a second thud, which he believed was the deer passing under the left flap. Following the second impact, the airplane's nose dropped, and the aircraft skidded along the runway as it veered to the right.
Aftermath
The airplane came to a stop approximately 20 feet from the right side of the runway. The deer was killed as a result of the impact. No other details were provided regarding the aircraft type, registration, operator, location, or any injuries to persons onboard.
