During a landing practice flight, a student pilot veered off the left side of the runway after touching down, striking a runway marker sign. No mechanical failures were reported.

Event

A student pilot was conducting a flight to practice takeoffs and landings. During the second landing, the airplane veered off the left side of the runway and collided with a runway marker sign. The accident occurred after the airplane touched down just past the runway numbers.

Pilot's Account

The student pilot reported that on the first landing, he noticed the wind seemed to push the airplane to the right, but he completed the landing without incident. During the second landing, after reducing the power to idle, the airplane veered left of the runway centerline and headed toward the left edge. He applied slight right rudder to correct but did not use full right rudder because he believed it would cause the airplane to flip over. He allowed the airplane to continue off the runway and applied the brakes.

Aircraft and Weather

The pilot stated that the airplane and engine experienced no mechanical failures or malfunctions throughout the flight. The reported wind conditions at the time of the accident were from 150 degrees at 5 knots.

Outcome

The airplane's left wing strut struck a runway marker sign, and the airplane came to a stop beside the runway. No injuries were reported in the source.
