Accident Sequence
The airplane impacted terrain in a field following a loss of engine power on takeoff. The pilot reported a normal engine start and run-up. During the takeoff roll, approximately halfway down the runway, the engine lost power and then restarted. The same loss of power occurred again when the airplane was too far down the runway to abort the takeoff.
Pilot Actions
To avoid high-tension lines ahead, the pilot descended to fly under them. Subsequently, he observed lower power lines near a road and was able to fly above those. The pilot reported that the engine power continued to cycle on and off during this period. At approximately tree-top height, the pilot banked left then right to align with a field. During these maneuvers, the airplane stalled and impacted the ground.
