Engine Failure and Forced Landing

During cruise flight, the engine "powered back." The pilot attempted to restore full power by checking the fuses and fuel primer, turning on the electric fuel pump, and switching to the left fuel tank. The engine did not respond. The bracket air filter was in place, appeared in good condition, and was free of obstructions. The aircraft's electrical system was turned on, and the electric fuel boost pump operated normally. Approximately two tablespoons of fuel were drained from the carburetor. The gascolator was opened and found to be dry and clear, with its screen in place and free of debris. No mechanical anomalies were noted during the examination.
