Accident Sequence
A student pilot was flying downwind in the traffic pattern, preparing to land. The air traffic controller directed the pilot to reverse the pattern and land on the opposite runway. Following the instruction, the pilot executed a landing approach. During the approach, the student misjudged the landing, causing the airplane to touch down approximately at the midpoint of the runway. After landing, the aircraft continued rolling and overran the end of the runway. It then collided with a fence. The right wing sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact.
Damage Assessment
The impact with the fence resulted in substantial damage to the right wing of the aircraft. No other damage was reported in the source.
Pilot and Controller Actions
The student pilot was under the guidance of an air traffic controller who had issued instructions to change the landing runway. The pilot's misjudgment of the approach led to landing further down the runway than intended.
