Accident Details
The accident involved a single-engine airplane during a landing attempt on Runway 01. The student pilot had accumulated 62 hours of flight time. Runway 01 was a dry asphalt surface measuring 5,602 feet in length and 100 feet in width.
Sequence of Events
The pilot reported making a normal approach for landing. During the initial touchdown, the airplane contacted the runway on all three wheels. Subsequently, the aircraft entered a balloon, rising off the runway. On the second touchdown, the airplane impacted the runway in a nose-low attitude. The pilot was unable to recover from the bounced landing and lost control of the aircraft during the landing.
Damage
The nose landing gear assembly collapsed upon impact. The engine firewall sustained structural damage as a result of the incident.

At the time of the accident, weather conditions were reported as clear skies with 10 miles of visibility. Wind was from 310 degrees at 6 knots. The altimeter setting was 30.34 inches of Mercury.
