A solo student pilot erroneously reported being on taxiway C2, leading to a takeoff clearance and subsequent ground collision between two airplanes on taxiway C1. The first airplane's right wing was severed by the second airplane's propeller.

Incident Overview

Two airplanes were involved in a ground collision on taxiway C1 at the end of runway 07. The first airplane was positioned in the run-up area adjacent to taxiway C1, while the second airplane was holding short of runway 07 on the same taxiway, directly in front of the first airplane.

Sequence of Events

The local controller asked the solo student pilot of the first airplane whether the aircraft was on taxiway C2. The student pilot erroneously responded that it was. Based on this response, the controller cleared the first airplane for takeoff. The student pilot then taxied forward and attempted to maneuver around the second airplane in order to reach the runway.

During the maneuver, the right wing of the first airplane passed under the left wing of the second airplane and made contact with the second airplane's propeller.

Damage

Contact with the propeller severed the outboard 1 foot of the right wing of the first airplane. No other damage was reported.
