Incident Overview
According to the pilot, the airplane's approach was higher than desired for runway 8. The aircraft touched down at approximately 70 mph. Shortly after the initial touchdown, a gust of wind caused the airplane to become airborne again. When it touched down a second time, only a short portion of the runway remained.
Pilot Actions
The pilot considered executing a go-around but observed power lines beyond the runway end and was uncertain whether the airplane could clear them. Instead, he chose to cut engine power and stop, intending to use the overrun grass area if necessary. The airplane traveled about 100 feet into the overrun area before the nose entered a large ditch, causing the aircraft to flip onto its back.
Aircraft Condition
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane or any of its systems prior to the accident.
