Accident Summary
A commercial certificated pilot was landing a cross-country positioning flight under Title 14, CFR Part 91. The runway surface was covered with snow. The pilot reported a crosswind of approximately 15 knots, with the wind direction about 30 degrees to the right of the runway heading.
Sequence of Events
During the landing flare, a gust of wind displaced the airplane to the left. Subsequently, the right main landing gear tire made contact with the runway surface to the left of the centerline. The pilot then endeavored to correct the airplane's alignment and also initiated an aborted landing procedure. However, the left elevator collided with an unidentified object, causing the airplane to yaw sharply to the left. The impact resulted in the separation of the nose landing gear. The airplane ultimately came to a stop along the left edge of the runway.
