Incident Description
On March 5, 2008, at approximately 1130 UTC, a Mooney M20J (registration LV-MPT) experienced a complete loss of engine power while in cruise flight. The pilot, a private pilot with foreign certification, conducted a forced landing into a field near Buenos Aires, Argentina. The pilot and one passenger were not injured. The aircraft sustained minor damage.
Engine Examination
After the accident, the engine was examined. The examination found that the crankshaft had fractured.
