The flight was routine, and he cancelled flight following approximately 8 miles from the destination. After entering the downwind leg for runway 19, the pilot observed multiple aircraft and parachutes in the pattern area.
Landing and Accident Sequence
The pilot set up for a normal approach and was at 80 mph on short final with full flaps. The airplane floated long down the runway. Upon touchdown, he applied full brakes, back pressure, and raised the flaps. Despite these actions, the airplane overran the end of the runway and spun 140 degrees to the right before coming to a stop in a low brush area. The pilot reported no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane or its systems prior to the accident. He further stated that he should have initiated a go-around after floating down the runway.
