What happened
On April 28, 2008, at approximately 1425 UTC, a Piper PA-3ability-310 aircraft, registration N6463L, crashed into several residences near Aeropuerto Internacional Del Centro Simon Bolivar (SVMI) in Maiquetia, Venezuela. The flight was intended to travel from SVMI to Hato Airport (TNCC) in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles.
Following takeoff, the pilot experienced a loss of engine power. In an attempt to return to the departure airport, the aircraft impacted multiple buildings in a residential area, which subsequently resulted in a postcrash fire. The accident resulted in 3 fatal injuries to those on board the aircraft and 5 fatal injuries to individuals on the ground.
