What happened
On November 1, 2008, a student pilot was performing touch-and-go landings at Asheville, North Carolina, during their first solo flight. The Cessna 172S, registered as N2055R, made a hard impact with the runway, which caused the aircraft to bounce. In an attempt to recover, the pilot applied power; however, the aircraft entered a stall. This resulted in the nose of the airplane pitching downward and striking the runway on the nose landing gear. There were no injuries resulting from the accident.
The investigation
The investigation determined that the impact with the runway caused substantial damage to the aircraft's fuselage and firewall.
