Accident Sequence
According to an official investigation report, a pilot with a newly acquired tailwheel endorsement was performing a touch and go landing in a tailwheel-equipped airplane on a turf runway. During the landing, the airplane encountered a sudden crosswind. As the airplane bounced back into the air, its nose turned left.
The pilot initiated a go-around and applied right rudder. The airplane then exited the runway and headed toward an airfield wind indicator. To avoid the obstruction, the pilot reduced engine power and maneuvered the airplane away. The airplane subsequently settled into a plowed field, nosed over, and came to rest in an inverted position.
