What happened
On December 6, 2008, a Rockwell International 114, registration N4920w, was completing a landing at Meacham International Airport in Texas following a cross-country flight. The weather conditions were reported as Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) with 10 statute miles of visibility.
According to the pilot, the aircraft bounced forcefully several times after touching down. During this touchdown sequence, the nose gear collapsed, causing the propeller to strike the ground. There were no injuries resulting from the accident.
The investigation
An examination of the aircraft revealed that the nose gear assembly contained several shear points. Additionally, the investigation found that the firewall had buckled.
