Accident Overview
On April 6, 2009, at 2034 universal coordinated time (1634 local time), a Piper PA-34-200T, Chilean registration CC-CJK, was substantially damaged following a loss of control in flight and collision with terrain. The accident occurred while the aircraft was on approach to Las Marias Airport (SCVL) in Valdivia, Chile. According to Chilean authorities, the airplane descended rapidly and impacted terrain about 10 miles west of SCVL.
Injuries and Damage
The foreign certificated pilot and one passenger were seriously injured. A second passenger was killed. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Chile, conducted by the Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil (DGAC).
