What happened
On May 28, 2009, at 5:49 UTC, a Boeing MD82, registration I-SMEB, operated by Meridiana, departed from Cagliari Airport, Italy. Following takeoff, the flight crew encountered an inability to pressurize the aircraft cabin.
Prior to the flight, the automatic standby pressurization system was noted as non-operational. During the flight, the crew was unable to engage either the automatic primary pressurization system or the manual pressurization system. Consequently, the crew elected to return to Cagliari Airport. The aircraft landed without further incident, and there were no injuries to the passengers or crew. There was no damage reported to the aircraft.
