Event Description
During the approach, the pilot completed the before-landing check on the left base leg by lowering the landing gear and extending approach flaps. However, he did not verify that the landing gear handle was in the full down position. After turning onto final approach, the pilot extended the flaps to the full down position but again did not check the landing gear handle.
Upon touchdown, the nose gear collapsed during the landing rollout, followed by the main landing gear. The pilot then raised the flaps as the airplane began to skid down the runway. The airplane came to a complete stop, and at that point the pilot observed that the landing gear handle was not in the full down position.
Post-Landing Examination
Maintenance personnel examined the airplane and reported no mechanical defects with the landing gear system or the landing gear selector switch. The landing gear itself and associated components were found to be in normal operating condition.
Findings
The investigation determined that the landing gear collapse occurred because the landing gear handle had not been placed in the full down position during the landing checks. The pilot's failure to verify the handle position led to the gear not being fully extended and locked before landing.
