Accident
On June 29, 2009, at approximately 2251 UTC, Yemenia Flight 626, an Airbus A310-300 registered as 7O-ADJ, collided with the waters of the Indian Ocean while on approach to land at Moroni, Comoros. The flight had originated from Sana'a, Yemen. Weather conditions at the time were reported as windy. Only one passenger survived the accident; the aircraft was destroyed.
Aircraft and Passengers
The aircraft, an Airbus A310-300 with registration 7O-ADJ, was operated by Yemenia. There were 153 people aboard, including passengers and crew. Of these, one passenger was the sole survivor.
Investigation
The investigation is being conducted under the responsibility of the Comoros Ministry of Transport. The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated an Accredited Representative to support the investigation in accordance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 13. Inquiries regarding the accident should be directed to the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile et de la Météorologie in Moroni, Comoros.
