What happened
On September 25, 2009, at approximately 2100 UTC, a Robinson R44, registration ZS-RMN, was performing an autorotative landing near Annerdale, South Africa. The flight, operated by National Airways Corporation, was en route from Germiston to Midrand in the Gauteng Province. During the landing, the aircraft struck the ground with significant force.
At the time of the accident, visual meteorological conditions (VMC) were in effect. There was no fire following the impact. The pilot and passenger were not injured, though the helicopter sustained substantial damage.
