Accident Details

During the landing phase of a solo cross-country flight, the student pilot was attempting to land on runway 27. The airplane bounced on its main landing gear during the initial touchdown. The pilot responded by flaring more, but the airplane bounced a second time.

To abort the landing, the student pilot added full engine power to execute a go-around. As the power was applied, the airplane rolled to the left. The pilot applied right aileron and rudder controls to correct the roll, but these inputs were ineffective. The airplane continued into a grass area off the left side of the runway.

During the sequence, the left wing and propeller impacted the ground, and the engine separated from its mounts. The accident resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft.
