What happened
On October 23, 2010, at approximately 0653 UTC, a Piper PA-32-301, registration 5Y-NAM, was conducting a personal flight from Moi to Mombasa. While in the cruise phase of flight, the aircraft experienced an in-flight breakup. Following the structural failure, the aircraft crashed into an open field at Vipingo Ridge, Kenya.
The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, sustained 1 fatal injury. The aircraft was destroyed by substantial damage, though no fire was reported at the scene.
