Incident Overview
On 12 November 2010, a Qantas Airways Boeing 767-338, registered VH-OGO, operated as flight QF768, a scheduled passenger service from Perth, Western Australia to Melbourne, New South Wales. Shortly after departure, the flight crew experienced an engine vibration and heard popping sounds from the #1 engine. The aircraft is powered by General Electric CF6-80C2 engines.
Crew Actions
The captain decided to reduce the #1 engine to idle power and subsequently requested a return to Perth. The aircraft landed without further incident.
