Hard Landing Damage Discovered During Maintenance Inspection of Training Aircraft

Damage Discovery

During a routine maintenance inspection, substantial damage was discovered on an airplane that was being operated as a training aircraft in a university aviation program. The damage was consistent with that resulting from a hard landing.

Areas Affected

The lower portion of the engine firewall, the nose landing gear/firewall doubler, and the floor pans near station location 30 were damaged. The inspection did not reveal any other mechanical anomalies that would have precluded normal operation of the aircraft.
