What happened
On December 14, 2010, at approximately 1442 eastern standard time, a Hawker Beechcraft TC-4IS (registration N38L) crashed into the ocean approximately 7 miles southwest of Lynden Pindling International Airport (MYNN) in Nassau, Bahamas. The aircraft, operated by Monarch Air Group LLC, was performing a non-scheduled, on-demand air-taxi cargo flight under 14 CFR Part 135.
The flight departed from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (KFFL) in Florida at about 1347. While the aircraft was on a 7-mile left downwind leg for runway 32 at MYNN, flying at 2,000 feet mean sea level, the crew lost both radar and radio contact.
The accident resulted in 2 fatal injuries, involving the airline transport pilot and a passenger. While fragments of the aircraft and the passenger were recovered on the water's surface, the main wreckage and the pilot were not recovered. The aircraft was presumed destroyed.
At the time of the accident, weather conditions were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 340 degrees at 10 knots.
