What happened
On December 27, 2010, a Cessna 195, registration N3464V, was performing a landing on a grass runway in Williamson, Georgia. During the landing sequence, the aircraft touched down and subsequently bounced. Following the bounce, the pilot applied the brakes inadvertently, which caused the aircraft to nose over and land in an inverted position.
The accident resulted in no injuries to the pilot. The aircraft sustained structural damage to its wings and tail section.
The investigation
During the investigation, the pilot reported that there were no mechanical issues with the aircraft prior to the event. Weather conditions at the time were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 200 degrees at 15 knots.
