What happened
On October 22, 2011, a Bellanca 7GCBC, registration N11668, was performing a landing at an off-airport site near Aniak, Alaska. During the landing sequence, the pilot applied excessive braking pressure, which caused the aircraft to nose over. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and the wings. There were no injuries reported in the accident.
The investigation
The investigation revealed that the aircraft's brakes had been recently upgraded to larger components. The pilot noted that additional practice should have been conducted with the new braking system prior to attempting a landing at an off-airport location.
