Accident Summary
A student pilot, conducting solo practice takeoffs and landings in the airport traffic pattern, experienced a bounce during the third landing flare in a tailwheel-equipped airplane. The aircraft drifted to the left and bounced on the runway.
Pilot Actions
Upon the bounce, the pilot applied full engine power to initiate a go-around. However, realizing the airplane would not clear trees at the end of the runway, the pilot reduced engine power and elected to land in a swamp. During touchdown in the swamp, the airplane nosed over and came to rest inverted.
Damage and Examination
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the right wing and vertical stabilizer. A Federal Aviation Administration inspector examined the airplane after the accident and reported no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies.
