What happened

On November 19, 2012, at approximately 10:30 local time, a Cessna R172K, registered as HK4890G, struck mountainous terrain near Cuchilla La Laja in the Department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. The aircraft was performing a VFR flight from Girardot/Santiago Vila Airport (SKGI) to Guaymaral Airport (SKGY).

At the time of the accident, the area was experiencing instrument meteorological conditions. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, and the pilot, who was the sole occupant, sustained 1 fatal injury.
