What happened
On April 28, 2013, a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration HZ-AK16, was undergoing engine start procedures at an airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The aircraft, powered by two General Electric GE90-115B engines, had been pushed back from its gate.
During the start sequence for the No. 2 engine, the engine experienced an unexpected acceleration to a high power setting. This surge in power caused the aircraft to move forward. The crew was unable to stop the aircraft using the brakes before it collided with a parked pushback tractor. The impact resulted in severe damage to the lower nose cowl of the No. 2 engine. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.
