Incident Overview
A pilot reported an accident during the third approach of a touch-and-go landing practice session. While on approach, the pilot felt and heard the propeller contact the runway surface, immediately realizing that the landing gear had not been lowered. The aircraft subsequently touched down on the runway without the gear extended, skidding approximately 600 feet before coming to a stop.
Damage Assessment
The lower fuselage sustained substantial damage from the gear-up landing. The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation, indicating the event was related to pilot action.
Sequence of Events
The pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings and had completed two approaches without incident. On the third approach, the pilot inadvertently omitted the step of lowering the landing gear, resulting in the propeller striking the ground and the aircraft sliding along the runway on its belly.
