Incident Overview
A pilot reported that while on approach for landing, the aircraft experienced wind direction changes and turbulence. After touchdown, the airplane bounced several times, prompting the pilot to initiate a go-around.
Sequence of Events
The pilot stated that initially, the airplane established a positive rate of climb. However, near the end of the runway, it suddenly lost altitude. The airplane subsequently touched down, ran off the runway surface, and traveled down a steep embankment.
Damage Assessment
The airframe and wings sustained substantial damage during the event. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.
