Landing Sequence
The pilot flew the traffic pattern and intended a touchdown zone landing on the runway centerline. After the initial touchdown, the airplane "floated back up" and then touched down again "with authority." This was followed by a second bounce, after which the airplane "weather vaned some." Concerned that the airplane was "chewing up runway," the pilot then executed a third touchdown. However, the pilot did not pull back on the yoke during this final touchdown.
Event Outcome
Following the third touchdown, the propeller struck the runway. The airplane subsequently veered off the right side of the runway. The nose landing gear collapsed, and the engine mounts broke.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot stated that there were no preexisting mechanical anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Conditions
The nearest recorded weather included winds from approximately 90 degrees to the right of the runway, at 10 knots gusting to 15 knots.
