Accident Summary
During the landing roll, the pilot encountered a crosswind. After reducing power to idle, the airplane began to drift to the right. The pilot applied full left rudder in conjunction with the left brake. Despite these inputs, the airplane departed the runway and entered a drainage ditch, where it nosed over. Substantial damage was sustained to both wing spars as a result of the accident.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported that after the airplane veered off to the right a second time, increasing power simultaneously with application of the left brake might have helped mitigate the situation. The pilot also stated that there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wing spars. No other damage details were provided.
