Accident Summary
A single-pilot aircraft experienced a wildlife strike during the landing roll, resulting in a runway excursion and substantial damage. The incident occurred while the pilot was performing a landing approach.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that while on final approach, the setting sun hindered his ability to see the runway clearly. During the subsequent landing roll, he reported that the airplane's left wing struck a deer. The impact caused the airplane to veer off the runway to the left.
Damage
A postaccident examination of the airframe revealed substantial damage to the left wing. The pilot reported there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
