Accident Details
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane performed a normal 3-point touchdown during landing. As the aircraft continued its ground roll, it began to veer to the right. The pilot applied left rudder to correct the deviation, but the airplane departed the right side of the runway and subsequently impacted a ditch. The fuselage and firewall sustained substantial damage.
Pilot Report
In his post-accident statement, the pilot suggested that his pant leg may have become caught on the right heel brake, potentially interfering with control inputs. He further emphasized that no mechanical malfunctions or failures were present with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
