Notification and International Cooperation
The Nigeria Accident Investigation Bureau (NAIB) has notified the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of an accident involving a Sikorsky S76-C helicopter that occurred on August 12, 2015. In accordance with international protocols, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the NAIB in the investigation.
Role of the Accredited Representative
The appointment was made under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (ICAO Annex 13). The United States serves as the State of Manufacturer and Design for the Sikorsky S76-C helicopter, entitling it to participate in the investigation led by Nigeria.
Investigative Authority
All investigative information, findings, and conclusions will be released by the NAIB as the authority conducting the inquiry. The NTSB will support the investigation as requested, providing technical expertise related to the helicopter's design and manufacturing.
