What happened

On October 3, 2015, at approximately 1715 UTC, a Piper PA-31-325, registration HK3909G, was conducting a non-commercial VFR flight from Guaymaral Airport (SKGY) in Bogota to Olaya Herrera Airport (SKMD) in Medellin. The flight had departed approximately two minutes prior to the accident.

During the initial climb, the pilot declared an emergency and notified air traffic control of the intent to perform an emergency landing in a field that was visible to the crew. While attempting the approach to the field near Hipodromo de los Andes in Chia, Cundinamarca, the aircraft struck a structure, rolled inverted, and impacted the terrain. A postcrash fire ensued, and the aircraft was destroyed.

The accident resulted in 2 fatal injuries and 1 minor injury.
