Incident Overview
On 3 December 2015, a tourist airplane pilot conducted a training navigation flight from EPRU to EPKM. After landing on runway DS23 at EPKM, the pilot taxied the Cessna 152 (registration SP-FZY) towards the parking area in front of the Aeroklub Śląski hangar. During taxi, the pilot focused attention on aircraft parked near the hangar and neglected to monitor the right side, where a fuel station surrounded by a mesh fence was located. In the final stage of taxi, the aircraft's right wingtip struck a corner post of the fence, damaging the wing caisson approximately 1 meter from the wingtip. The pilot, uninjured, exited the cockpit. The aircraft was withdrawn from service and secured for repair in the hangar.
Cause
The incident was attributed to improper observation of the forward area during taxi and an improper division of attention while approaching obstacles.
