What happened
On December 3, 2015, a Cessna 152, operated by Aeroklub Częstochowski, was conducting a training flight for navigational skill improvement. The flight originated from the EPRU landing field. After landing on runway DS23 at the EPKM airport, the pilot proceeded to taxi toward the parking area located in front of the Aeroklub Śląski hangar.
During the taxi phase, the pilot focused on observing other aircraft parked near the hangar apron. In the final stage of the taxi maneuver, the aircraft struck a corner post of a wire fence surrounding a nearby fuel station. The impact occurred approximately one meter from the wingtip, resulting in damage to the leading edge of the right wing.
The investigation
The investigation examined the flight path and the pilot's actions during the taxiing sequence. The inquiry reviewed photographic evidence of the scene and the damage sustained by the aircraft. The investigation established that the pilot was uninjured and exited the aircraft following the collision. The aircraft was subsequently removed from service and moved to a hangar for repairs.
Findings
- The pilot failed to maintain adequate observation of the right side of the aircraft during taxi.
- Improper distribution of attention while approaching obstacles led to the collision with the fence post.
