Incident Overview
On January 24, 2016, at approximately 1030 local time, a Van RV-8 aircraft, registered as HS-GMC, initiated a forced landing near Chiang Mai, Thailand. The event occurred after a total loss of engine power during cruise flight. The owner/pilot and one passenger on board were not injured. The airplane sustained damage predominantly to the wings, landing gear, and lower fuselage area.
Flight Details
The flight was operating under the pertinent regulations of the Government of Thailand. Preliminary information from Thai authorities indicated that the airplane had departed from Nok Temporary Airfield Banthi, Lamphun, Thailand, at about 0915 local time for a sightseeing flight. During cruise at 4,000 feet, the engine suddenly quit, and the pilot executed a forced landing onto a field.
