What happened
On January 24, 2016, at approximately 10:30 local time, a Van RV-8, registration HS-GMC, performed a forced landing near Chiang Mai, Thailand. The aircraft had departed from Nok Temporary Airfield Banthi, Lamphun, Thailand, at approximately 09:15 local time for the purpose of a sightseeing flight.
While the aircraft was in the cruise phase of flight at an altitude of 4,000 feet, the engine experienced a sudden failure. The pilot subsequently initiated a forced landing into a field. The two occupants, the pilot and one passenger, were not injured. The aircraft sustained damage primarily to the wings, the landing gear, and the lower portion of the fuselage.
