Incident Notification
On February 23, 2016, an incident involving a Boeing 737 occurred. The government of Japan notified the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of this incident. As the State of Manufacturer and Design of the airplane and its engines, the NTSB has taken action to assist in the investigation.
International Cooperation
Under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative. This representative will assist the government of Japan's investigation. ICAO Annex 13 outlines procedures for aircraft accident and incident investigation, designating the State of Occurrence as the lead investigator and granting the State of Manufacturer the right to appoint an Accredited Representative. This process ensures international cooperation and technical expertise in aviation safety investigations.
Information Release
All investigative information regarding this incident will be released by the government of Japan. The NTSB will not publish separate findings. The incident is under investigation by Japanese authorities with assistance from the NTSB. No additional details about the incident have been released.
